Late Mr. E. C Purushothaman vaidyar the veteran of this family line was the torch bearer of the mission to provide solace to many with his expertise and dedication in the field of Ayurveda. His worthy successor Dr.P. Prabhakaran with his 40 plus years of experience and excellence in ayurvedic treatment is now leading Ennakkathara Aryavaidyasala. After completing his studies from Govt Ayurveda college, Tripunithura, he entered into the field of Ayurveda practice, combining his academic inputs and traditional knowledge obtained from his father. He started his career at Ennakkathara Aryavaidyasala Chottanikkara in 1976. His eldest son Dr.Sudheer E P, graduated from Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda college , Ollur, Thrissur, is now working as Medical officer, Indian system of Medicine under Kerala Government. Dr Sudheer's wife, Dr. Nikila is also an ayurveda graduate, now working as consulting physician at Ennakkathara Aryavaidyasala Chottanikkara. Dr. Prabhakaran's younger son, after ayurveda graduation from Sulliya medical college, Mangalapuram, is now taking care of the ayurveda pharmacy at Poothotta and Ennakkathara clinic at Arayankavu. His wife Dr. Revathy , is also an Ayurveda Physician.
The busy track of modern life has totally shackled the free flow of life in the safe hands of nature. The modern life style with untimely and wrong diet , lack of quality sleep, unhealthy working conditions, pollution etc has made man a repository of all kind of maladies and ailments. Lifestyle disorders like diabetes , high blood pressure, thyroid dysfunction, obesity and problems like upper respiratory tract infections, rheumatic complaints , joints and musculoskeletal disorders, nervous disorders, infertility, gynaecological disorders, paediatric disorders, various skin lesions come under those ailments. Diseases are due to the vitiation of tridoshas - vata, pitha and kapha. Ayurveda treatment has mainly two divisions- Samana chikitsa and Sodhana chikitsa. Samana chikitsa refers to treatment with medicines like arishta, kashayam, choorna, gulika etc to pacify the vitiated doshas. If dosha vitiation is more then Sodhana chikitsa is recommended. It eliminates the vitiated doshas thus purifying the body.
Panchakarma comes under sodhana therapy. The five process which are used for body cleansing in ayurveda. Proper preparatory measures are to be taken prior the treatment to make the body ready for cleaning. The five karmas are
All these five processes will not be necessary for a single person at a time. The doctor will select the karmas according to the health condition and dosha state.
